All teaching staff at FASoS have received recording rights for Zoom, because our faculty has indicated that we need to use Zoom’s recording function for recording knowledge clips or lectures.
We urge you to carefully read the manual for recording, which you can find here on the VideUM website.
We would also like to make clear that it is expressly forbidden to record students through Zoom. This means that you preferably do not record lectures with students. However, when there is no other option, then please urge the students to switch off their cameras and mute their microphones. When pressing the recording button, both you as a Zoom host and your students as participants will receive a messages asking students to mute their microphone and switch off their cameras.
The Executive Board has decided that due to the privacy issues surrounding Zoom and the storage of video in the cloud, the platform is not (yet) suitable for including students in the video feed. Specifically, these privacy issues relate to the fact that recordings are stored on US servers. Storing student data (such as recordings) is in violation with EU GDPR regulations and against UM policy. Therefore, in order to guarantee the continuity of education, Zoom recording has been made available temporarily.
Please note that we are working hard toward building a long term IT infrastructure to support your online and/or blended education. This takes time. We thank you for your patience and advise you to bring up any technical issues you may experience with your Faculty Eleum Coordinator, Information Manager, local ICT service desk, Head of the Office of Student Affairs or other support channels in your faculty.
The process to obtain your video is as follows:
You can access and download your video in your Zoom account.
We would like to ask you to make the recording available to your students by downloading the video (it will be available for download for 10 days), uploading it through Mymediasite and sharing by sharing the link directly or placing it in Canvas
